This sweet chestnut filly has taught us so many lessons. She was born
at 12.15 am on May 20th and weighed over 100 lbs. We nick named her
Tear Drop because the shape of the white on her face. Everything was
going well but somehow one of the mares accidentally stepped on her
front leg and broke it. One clean break to the radius bone. The poor
filly was loaded into the trailer and traveled an hour to the vet
clinic. The x-ray revealed that although it was repairable the long
term prognosis was very guarded and the odds were definitely against
her. Before she had lived out her first day she had to undergo two
hours of surgery to have a 10" pin put in her leg.
That first week we made two additional trips to the clinic because
things just weren't going well. Confined to a portion of the hay shed,
this filly would get up and suck every 20 minutes just like every other
foal. There were times when we figured she would not see the morning
sun but she just kept plugging away. It seemed every time we lost hope
she would do something to show us she was trying. The will to live and
the spirit of this sweet filly was unbeatable. Right around that time,
we decided that for all her guts and determination she deserved a more
fitting name and so Tear Drop became Hmstd Unsinkable Ms Brown or Molly
for short.
Molly remained in the shed for 8 weeks and during that time we had to
teach her how to use that broken leg. What a wonderful day it was for
all concerned when we were able to turn her out for the first time. Molly has a slight limp but runs and plays like a normal filly.
Hmstd Unsinkable Ms Brown is a typical Zipper daughter. She has a
pretty head with tiny ears, good length of neck tied into a nicely
sloped shoulder. Her back is short and this filly has good depth of
girth. Molly will mature in the 15 hand range. Like her sire, her
disposition is very laid back.
Molly and our young grandson Reese spent many hours together during her
confinement. For Christmas we gave Molly to Reese. She will remain on
the Homestead and will hopefully go on to produce many fine Morgans for
our grandson.
