On Lease To Edgefield Farm |
After Dark Scarlet Lace is sired by the balanced and handsome Funquest Roadmaster, who like so many of the Funquest horses, is wonderfully square with that great hip. Scarlet is out of a General Crook daughter, well known in the NW area for his kind disposition, handsome ways, and wonderful trot.
Scarlet is a big bodied powerful mare with exceptional Morgan beauty and length of neck. The power and hock action she displays is incredible.
Currently on lease at Edgefield Farm the following is what Charlene Cook had to say about this mare. Scarlet established herself as “queen” of the barn. She never hesitated to do what we ask of her, but remained “regal”! She was so easy to train. Her first hitch to the cart was accepted and she took off trotting, looking back to make sure I was following. Scarlet has that lovely big Funquest trot. In fact under saddle she would rather trot but we are working on the canter. Scarlet caught on quickly to riding, with never a buck or a refusal. After 6 months of regular riding one of my former lesson girls rode her and loved her. She is so fun to ride – still her “queenly” self, and in charge of the herd, but willingly listening to her rider.
Scarlet produced one outstanding filly for us before being leased. Hmstd Hot Buttered Rum aka Spice was a nice balanced filly, with a great deep hip, laid back shoulder, nicely set neck, nice feet and legs. Like her dam Spice had a way of letting you know that you were in the presence of greatness. Sadly this sweet filly had a fatal accident but in her short life she touched the lives of many and will never be forgotten.
The resulting foal from the Scarlet/Rum Runner cross was huge, indicating a projected height measurement of 16 hands and showed great promise in Hunter Pleasure and the Sport Discipline’s. Spice liked to jump and her owner felt that dressage and hunter/jumper would have been in her future. This filly had a lot of extension to her movement and could really float! It is our intention to repeat this cross many times in the future.
