Where in the earth has the summer gone. Seems like just yesterday we were eagerly anticipating the arrival of the foals and now it is fall and everyone but Adios Reality has been weaned. Due to the location of the Homestead, we tend to not start foaling until the first part of May and then we try and have everyone weaned by mid September. That way the young'uns get a chance to get adjusted to life without Mom before the
weather turns. This year Chicklette has been designated as big sister and babysitter and although the first few days saw her not quite sure what her role was, she quickly learned that it can be fun to be the oldest in the pack.
Shuda Bin A Cowboy is Mr. Personality, Lil Bit of Heaven is the Princess while Peppermint Patti was the pouty one and wanted nothing to do with anyone who had caused her mother to disappear. Meal time is a real three ring circus and it is entertaining to watch all their personalities come into play. One day I switched the routine and took the bowls out empty and placed them around the pen, while everyone pranced around trying to figure things out, Don't Fence Me In aka Freedom stood patiently at his bowl and just kept pawing and looking in the bowl. I guess he figured the bowl had never let him down before so all he had to do was have faith. There is not a day that goes by that I don't thoroughly enjoy these beautiful creatures and you have to know it is going to be very hard to say goodbye.

All the weanlings have been attending school on a regular basis. Like kids some took to their first few days of Manners 101 with great enthusiasm while others wished they could have stayed in bed. But typical of a Morgan they all caught on fast. Their education will continue through the winter or until they leave for their new homes.
