~ Hmstd Rum Runner ~
We feel that this young stallion is a combination of the best traits from his sire and dam. The Walker horses were a balanced mix of Old Government, Lippitt and a little Mid West breeding. They were strong, sizable, athletic, good minded horses. Sunup Neptune is in the maternal lines and well known for his colour, beauty and for being true to type. Hmstd Rum Runner is a perlino. A double dilute results when both parents pass on their cream gene to their offspring. In simple terms he is a bay colt with two cream genes. He has been tested at UC Davis and carries both the black and red genes (Ee) and is heterozygous for agouti (Aa). All his progeny will be buckskin, palomino, smoky black or if bred to single dilute mares could be perlino, cremello or smoky cream. Rum Runner aka Peanut is a well balanced young stallion with good length of hip, outstanding legs and feet with good hock angulation. Short flat cannon bones with longer forearm and good muscling. He has nice length of neck with smooth laid back shoulders. Hmstd Rum Runner is broad between the eyes, has a small muzzle and a nice wide jowl. Currently standing 15 hands, he has overall good balance and a nice masculine appearance. Peanut is the epitome of the term laid back. Not a lot rattles this young stallion and young he is in years. It is amazing the number of foals this boy has already put on the ground and when we look at the quality and placement of them, it is even more impressive. Rum Runner’s greatest worth is not in his colour genetics, it is in his Morgan type and personality. He passes on not only his strong Morgan type but his work ethic as well. He is willing to take on any job given him and put his all into pleasing his teacher. The get of Rum Runner have exceeded our greatest expectations. His foals have overall length of body (laid back shoulder, short back, longer hip) longer neck length and they tend to have early muscle definition. Their heads are pretty and they have good solid minds. We see Rum Runner’s get going towards the western side of things, pleasure, trail, ranch horse. If they were to compete it would likely be in western pleasure, trail, dressage and hunter pleasure. We feel they will be overall great using horses. Hmstd Rum Runner has 33 registered foals in Canada, United States and Europe. The breakdown by sex is 16 colts and 17 fillies. Of those 33 foals, there are 18 buckskin, 1 silver dapple buckskin, 6 palomino, 1 smoky black, 5 perlino, 1 cremello and 1 smoky cream. The true test of a stallion is in the saleability of his offspring, another area in which Rum Runner excels. From California to Europe, Rum Runner babies are spanning the globe as moving advertisements for not only Homestead Morgans and Hmstd Rum Runner but for Morgans in general.
